Traveling Adoration Altar

Heritage Restoration and Design Studio has years of experience manufacturing and restoring church furniture. Today, we are building a collapsible and mobile adoration altar for use at a convention.

Project Overview
Before construction began, a detailed design plan was developed to ensure that each section of the mobile altar would interlock securely while remaining lightweight and easy to transport. Precision and balance were key in crafting a structure that is both functional and beautiful.

Fabrication Process
Once the design was finalized, the altar components were cut and shaped in our woodshop. Decorative details, including intricate filigree work and a custom emblem, were carved using CAD designs and executed with CNC technology to ensure accuracy and refinement.

Finishing Touches
Each piece was then moved to our finishing studio, where the wood was primed and stained a rich, deep brown. A protective industrial conversion lacquer varnish was applied to enhance durability and protect the piece from wear and environmental exposure.

The altar’s capitals were marbleized using Heritage’s faux-finish technique to replicate the elegant look of real onyx. The emblem of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, a historic religious and philanthropic order dating back to the Crusades, was hand-painted in a striking red to create a bold focal point.

Interior Detailing
Inside the altar’s top section, two hand-hammered angel icons and a gold monstrance—sourced through our trusted supplier network—were installed. The icons are mounted on the interior of each swinging door, while the central compartment houses the monstrance and Eucharist, secured with a lockable door for safekeeping.

To complete the reliquary space, ornate wallpaper and an integrated overhead light were added, enhancing the visual and spiritual impact of the interior.

This custom-crafted mobile altar is now complete and ready for its role at the upcoming convention. View the gallery below to explore the process and craftsmanship behind its creation.
