In Detail

Heritage Restoration and Design Studio was recently commissioned to restore a damaged stained glass window depicting St. Catherine of Siena, a 14th-century mystic and Doctor of the Church known for her theological writings and influence on the Catholic Church. The window had suffered several large cracks and was missing a significant piece of glass on its right side, compromising both its structural integrity and visual impact.

To begin the restoration, Heritage created a precise template of the original glass layout and carefully disassembled the window. Salvageable cracked glass pieces were preserved using a UV fusion technique, which bonds the glass while maintaining its original appearance. For areas where the glass was broken or missing, closely matched replacement pieces were custom cut and installed to maintain the window’s historic authenticity.

In addition to the glasswork, the original wooden frame surrounding the window was refinished to provide a refreshed, updated color and finish that complements the restored artwork. Once all components were complete, the window was reassembled and returned to the client, fully revitalized and ready to be displayed once more as a cherished piece of sacred art.
