Restoring a World War 2 Memorial Plaque
Heritage Restoration restored a WWII memorial plaque for a local church, using 3D printing to replace missing letters, repairing damage, and refinishing the surface with a rich wood tone and gilded highlights. The project preserves history while honoring the sacrifice of fallen parishioners.

In Detail
Heritage Restoration was recently commissioned to restore a historic memorial plaque at a local church, honoring parishioners who gave their lives during the Second World War. Over time, this important tribute had suffered visible wear, with missing lettering, surface damage, and faded finishes detracting from its original dignity. The church entrusted Heritage Restoration with the delicate task of bringing the plaque back to its former glory, preserving both its historical significance and aesthetic value.
One of the most critical aspects of the restoration involved replacing several missing letters from the beveled nameplates. Heritage Restoration utilized advanced 3D modeling and printing technologies to accurately replicate the original typography and ensure a seamless match. In addition, chips and dents along the plaque’s edges were meticulously repaired, reinforcing the structure while maintaining its authentic appearance.
To complete the restoration, the entire plaque was refinished with a deep, rich wood hue, chosen to enhance its timeless character. Gilded highlights were carefully applied to accentuate intricate details and elevate the overall visual impact. The result is a beautifully restored memorial that respectfully commemorates the lives of fallen parishioners while standing as a lasting testament to the community’s heritage.
