Replacing a Chamber Wall with a New Lightbox
Heritage Restoration transformed a church sanctuary by restoring antique stained glass and installing custom LED light boxes. The project included modifying historic sash units, sourcing vintage glass, and integrating modern lighting to enhance the space’s spiritual and visual ambiance.

In Depth
Heritage Restoration, recently undertook a sanctuary remodeling project that seamlessly blended tradition with innovation. The project centered around the transformation of an organ chamber wall, prominently visible from the church's main congregation area. The goal was to create a custom stained glass light box that would enhance the visual and spiritual atmosphere of the space, while preserving and reusing existing architectural elements.
The restoration involved modifying four historic sash units into two elongated panels, which would flank a central 6' x 6' opening. Heritage Restoration sourced antique glass from its inventory to fill this central space, ensuring the panel aligns with the aesthetic and spiritual tone of the sanctuary. Each glass element, whether on-site or newly acquired, will undergo full cleaning and releading before installation. To accommodate the redesigned layout, screens will be removed and the existing center post will be repositioned to fit the restored sash units seamlessly within the original trim frame.
To complete the transformation, Heritage Restoration fabricated and installed custom LED light boxes behind the stained glass panels. These boxes feature white diffuser panels to eliminate any lighting hotspots, ensuring the artwork glows evenly and beautifully. The project not only revives antique glasswork but also introduces modern lighting to enhance the space’s ambiance.
