Renewing a Vintage Secretary Desk
An antique secretary desk was expertly revitalized using specialized coatings. Upon completion of the restoration, the piece exhibited a significantly enhanced, vibrant, and refined appearance.

Over time, wood naturally fades as stains and paints deteriorate. Modern protective compounds, however, can be applied to extend the longevity of wooden surfaces. For this project, the desk was restored without stripping the original finish. Instead, an industrial conversion coating was applied in two layers to enhance the wood’s depth and visual appeal.
To ensure a thorough application, attached components such as drawers, glass panels, and hardware were carefully disassembled. Each piece was individually coated and allowed to cure. The glass panels were cleaned and reinstalled with new wooden stops, custom-cut and finished to match the desk, securing the glass firmly in place.
Once fully cured, the desk was reassembled and delivered to the client. The newly applied coating not only revitalizes the wood’s appearance but also provides durable protection, significantly extending the desk’s usable lifespan.
