Redecorating an Iowa Church's Interior

Heritage Restoration revitalized an Iowa Catholic church with new murals, stained glass restoration, gilded columns, and vibrant, multi-tone interior redesign.

Heritage Restoration and Design Studio recently completed an extensive interior redecoration of a Catholic church in Iowa, bringing new life to a space that had grown dim and dated. Prior to the project, the church suffered from poor lighting and a dull color palette that failed to highlight the beauty of its architecture. Heritage addressed these challenges by implementing a multi-tone, complementary color scheme that made strategic use of negative space to naturally draw attention to key architectural and artistic elements.

As part of the transformation, the church’s stained glass windows were temporarily removed for a full restoration. The windows were releaded to reinforce their structural integrity, and the glass was meticulously cleaned to restore their original brilliance. Additionally, the church's columns were enhanced through a process of gilding and marbleizing, adding both texture and elegance to the sanctuary. A new decorative façade wall was constructed behind the high altar, adding visual depth and a refined focal point to the liturgical space.

One of the most significant changes took place on the ceiling, where new murals were created to replace those lost during an earlier renovation. These artworks not only enrich the visual narrative of the church but also restore a sense of sacred beauty to the space. With the project now complete, the church interior has been fully revitalized—brighter, more welcoming, and better aligned with its spiritual purpose.
