During a recent relocation, a stained glass window panel sustained damage when it was accidentally dropped. Two sections of the main pane were cracked, and the intricately painted depiction of Monte Cassino Abbey was fractured into five separate pieces. The client turned to Heritage Restoration, to assess and repair the damage.

Upon evaluation, Heritage's artisans determined that one of the cracked background pieces could be replaced using glass of identical color and texture to preserve the panel’s visual integrity. However, the damage to the Monte Cassino depiction was too extensive for conventional repair techniques, as any attempt to fuse the broken segments would leave visible cracks. To achieve a seamless restoration, the original section was removed and used to create a detailed template. A new piece of glass was carefully cut to match the original shape, hand-painted to replicate the lost imagery, and kiln-fired to permanently set the design. The resulting artwork was nearly indistinguishable from the original.

In addition to the restoration, Heritage Restoration fabricated a custom wood frame to support and showcase the repaired window. Once fully reassembled and framed, the stained glass panel was returned to the client. The completed piece now blends artistry with structural soundness, offering renewed beauty and illumination. This project exemplifies how skilled craftsmanship can breathe new life into historic stained glass.
