Belleville Cathedral - Belleville, Illinois

Heritage was tasked with reviewing historic millwork and designing a new pulpit and bishop’s canopy around the original pieces. The century-old wood required careful stripping, refinishing, and rejuvenation to preserve its character without damage. Heritage also suspended a 250-pound wooden cross across a 75-foot span at 35 feet high and crafted custom wood candlesticks featuring built-in historic statuary.

Project Details

Heritage Restoration, a multi-generational family-owned company specializing in church decoration and custom wooden furniture, recently completed a significant installation at St. Peter Cathedral in Belleville, Illinois.

The project included the design and installation of a new baldaquin and a hanging crucifix, both crafted to complement the cathedral’s architectural style. Heritage also created an ornate pulpit featuring intricately hand-carved statues of the four Catholic evangelists—Saints Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—adding both artistic and spiritual significance.

In addition, custom candlesticks were designed with carefully crafted niches at their bases to house woodcarved statues, enhancing the cathedral’s liturgical environment.
