Oil Canvas and Murals

"Structure, Beauty and Emotion are all possible through a painting” -Michael H. Berlinger
Oil on Canvas: A Brief History
Oil painting traditionally uses a purified linseed oil base, mixed with various pigments, turpentine, and drying agents. While commonly associated with Renaissance masters, oil painting as a medium dates back to the early Roman Empire.
Oil Paints
Oil paints offer exceptional depth, vibrancy, and versatility. While our artists at Heritage Restoration have experience with various media, we prefer oils for their unmatched ability to blend tones, create texture, and achieve fine detail. Whether opaque, transparent, or translucent, oil paint supports a wide range of techniques—making it ideal for both original compositions and historical reproductions.
Canvas
Modern canvas is typically a cotton blend, replacing traditional linen for cost efficiency. However, Heritage can still work with authentic linen canvases when appropriate. Depending on the project, canvas may be stretched over a frame or directly applied to architectural surfaces such as walls or ceilings. Proper preparation and treatment are essential to preserve the structural integrity and longevity of the artwork.
Our skilled artists create faithful replicas of masterworks as well as original commissioned pieces, all crafted with the highest attention to historical accuracy and artistic quality.
