Coffered Ceilings

Coffered Ceiling System: Elegant. Affordable. Versatile.
Heritage Restoration offers a historically inspired coffered ceiling system that’s both elegant and practical—easily installed, customizable in style, suitable for a range of architectural needs, and backed by thoughtful finishes and support.
A Design Rooted in History
Coffered ceilings began as stone architectural details, framing ceilings with deep recessed panels. Over centuries, wood became the material of choice for interior elegance. Though long thought to originate in France’s Loire Valley, the earliest known wooden coffered ceilings were discovered in ancient Herculaneum, buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. In the 19th century, wood coffered ceilings graced U.S. mansions like the Frick House and Biltmore Estate—symbols of refined taste and opulence.
Beauty Meets Accessibility
Heritage Restoration makes traditionally luxurious ceilings affordable and easy to install. Featuring a drop-in suspension system similar to metal grids, the removable wooden coffers provide easy access to ducts, wiring, and mechanicals—making them ideal for both residential spaces like basements and studies, and commercial spaces such as restaurants and lobbies.
Tailored Style Options
- Layouts & Grid Widths: Choose between 3‑inch grids for a beam-like look or 2‑inch grids with decorative detailing—perfect for small rooms.
- Coffer Depths: Deep (4 in), Medium (3 in), or Flat panels are available—accommodating ceiling heights from low basements to vaulted spaces.
- Wood Varieties: Select from Poplar, Red Oak, Knotty Alder, Knotty Pine, Soft Maple, and Cherry—or go custom. Poplar and Knotty Pine are budget-friendly, and Poplar accepts paint and rich stain tones beautifully.
Finishing Options—From Classic to Custom
Finish options for the ceiling grid including custom cabinet-grade waterborne finishes, antiquing, distressing, glazing, and even fire-retardant coatings. Fancy a painted metallic or crackle finish? We've got that too.
Installation Made Doable
- Key‑Lock Joints simplify assembly—no fuss.
- Compatible with standard metal 15/16″ T-bar grid (not included), or suspended via brackets.
- Basic installation steps: install wall angle, level main runners (typically in 12–14 ft sections), snap-in cross tees, secure border elements (cove bands), and insert coffers—custom pieces are available for unique room shapes.
