Marbleizing and Woodgraining

Marbleizing

The procedure used for many centuries by old world craftsman in applying an imitation marble finish to different surfaces is known as Marbleizing or marbling. Berlinger’s Marbleizing Process used by Heritage Restoration and Design, Inc. utilizes old world skills and techniques coupled with modern paint resin materials and glazes.

In order to understand what Berlinger’s Marbleizing Process is, we must first know what genuine marble is made of.  Marble is a Limestone that was put under extreme pressure and heat that is capable of taking a high polish.  Marble, or variegated marble, to be precise, can come in various colors and patterns.  Variegated means the surface must give the appearance of different colors in various spots marked with patches of combined colors in other locations blended together with occasional fissure cracks familiar with marbles.  Variegated Marbleizing is therefore the art process, through which colors, through combinations of colors are blended to create the look of genuine variegated marble.

The Berlinger’s Variegated Marbleizing Process uses various base coatings combined with wet undercoatings and color blending to achieve a unique appearance of unpolished marble.  Thereafter, a clear ultra-high, or semi-gloss glaze is applied for a perfect finish that gives the look of genuine MARBLE!  The surface on which you apply the Variegated Marbleizing will greatly add to the finished look.

Woodgraining

The original Berlinger’s Woodgraining Process, first used about a hundred years ago, is now still being artistically formed by our craftsman into the 21st century!

The original Berlinger’s Woodgraining Process, somewhat different today, is still the only means to authentically reproduce a versatile imitation woodgrained effect over most any conceivable surface.  Unlike most factory applied overlay finishes, our original Berlinger’s Woodgraing Process can be applied on the job site or at most any location.  Modern wood overlaying methods require a flat unobtrusive surface for application of imitation wood finishes.  The original Berlinger’s Woodgraining Process can be applied over raised and depressed panels, intricate moldings as well as flat surfaces for a genuine “wood” appearance!!
